Inter-Regional Netball Tourney (Western Regional Qualifiers)

Clubs:

  • Finals: Nyamityoboora  8-6 Welden

Institutions:

  • Finals: Bishop Stuart 16-5 Uganda Martyrs, Mpigi

Nyamityoboora and Bishop Stuart University won the respective regional clubs and institutions categories during the Western Region Netball qualifiers held at the muddy Nyamityoboora playground in Mbarara following the earlier rains in the day.

Nyamityoboora overcame Welden 8-6 in a tough club’s finale as Bishop Stuart University easily out-muscled Uganda Martyrs from Mpigi 16-5 in the Institutions’ event.

Stellah Nabukeera and Sarah Nakaweesa were instrumental in Nyamityoboora’s victory to brush aside traditional arch-rivals.

Bishop Stuart, on the other hand, who were coached by Jesse Asiimwe relied on the magical hands of sharp shooters Saphiah Nakunda and Gift Asimire.

This was the second week that the championship was taking place having kicked off the previous weekend with the Eastern Version held at Mbale Cricket Oval.

In the Eastern Region, Walukuba-Jina and UCU Mbale were the successful clubs and institution sides respectively.

The tournament major aims among others is to tap grass root talents, create awareness of Injectaplan as a birth control tool and help spread netball vastly across the country.

Next weekend, the tournament will shift base to Arua for the Northern and West Nile Regional qualifiers on October 16th, 2016.

Central Region (Kampala and Buganda Regions) will hold their qualifiers on 22nd October before the grand finale on 29th October 2016 at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.

The top team per club and institution from each of the four regions will play at the national finals.
