When Woodball was introduced from the Asian part of world to Uganda about eight years ago, the prime objective among others was to expand the game across all the corners of the country sporadically.
Initiatives and ground work was undertaken by Uganda Woodball Federation (UWbF) to first take the game to institutions which gather varying personalities from all walks of life.
After commendable work in primary, secondary and universities, the Federation tackled the corporate through the Corporate League.
Of late, with the help of Bank of Uganda, UWbF has had two Woodball Training Workshops in Teso sub-region.
First was the Soroti Woodball Workshop on October 7th at Teso College Aloet and then at Kumi Woodball Workshop on the subsequent day at Ngero Primary School.
Both workshops were to equip the participants with the basic knowledge of Woodball, inaugurate Interim committees and launch Woodball competitions for both districts.
The Federation was tasked by the Department of Physical Education and Sports to spread the game to all districts of Uganda if the sport is to be included in the National Ball Games programme in 2018.
Speaking at the Kumi Woodball Workshop, the Assistant DEO, Steven Akol indicated how the availability of equipment would help the growth of the sport in the District
As Kumi District, we have competed at almost all National Ball games organised. If we are availed with the Woodball equipment, we promise to have the sport develop in our region
UWbF president Paul Mark Kayongo promised to support each of the participating schools with a set of equipment to kick start the sport in their respective districts.
Bank of Uganda donated a trophy to each district to aid in the organisation of the District Woodball Championships.
The donations came as part of the ‘BoU @50’ celebrations.

The Federation has also held workshops this year in Amuria District on July 29th at Wera Technical Institute, and Masaka District at Masaka S.S on 1st October 2016 with a target to reach the whole country by the year 2017 as attested by Kayongo;
Our target is to cover all districts of Uganda by the end of 2017.
In each district we set up an interim committee that administers the sport on behalf of UWbF.
The committee is empowered to organise district Woodball Competitions and Workshops
Next the Federation will organise a training workshop for Teachers in Jinja District at Jinja S.S on October 12th, 2016.
