On the third asking, City Oilers finally won the Zone V Club Championship last week in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

Having finished third on their first attempt in 2014, the three-time National Basketball League defending champions stretched Egypt’s Gezira to the limits at last year’s finals in Kigali.

This year, all the focus was on bringing the trophy home and they did.

On the outside, it all seemed so easy having recorded blowout victories from start through to the finals but according to the tournament Most Valuable Player, Jimmy Enabu, everything was worked for.

“I think we prepared well,” Enabu told Kawowo Sports. “The scores can be deceiving… We had to work for everything. I believe it is preparation and a great sense of commitment (that put us above the rest),” he added.

Enabu who barely got playing time at Power four years ago was named the local league MVP in 2014. The guard added another individual accolade – this time regional and couldn’t be more delighted with the tournament MVP award coming along with the effort he put in.

“Going into the tournament, I was ready to leave everything on the floor,” Enabu told this website. “I wanted the championship so bad that I was committed to do what was demanded of me by the coach, management and the team… Then there comes the MVP accolade”

Enabu and the City Oilers will in the meantime turn focus to the league starting with the Friday game against UCU Canons before heading for the continental championship.
