Mamelodi Sundowns (SA) vs Zamalek (Egypt) – Lucas ‘Masterpieces’ Moripe Stadium, Pretoria

Referee: Davies Ogenche Omweno 1st assistant: Berhe O’michael 2nd assistant: Theogene Ndagijimana

Kenyan FIFA referee Davies Ogenche Omweno will handle the first leg of the CAF Champions League semi-final between South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns and Zamalek of Egypt.

The two clubs face off at the Lucas ‘Masterpieces’ Moripe stadium in Pretoria with Zamalek seeking to win a seventh African crown while the Brazilians are desperate to earn their maiden continental title.

Omweno will be assisted by Berhe O’michael as first assistant and Theogene Ndagijimana as second assistant.

It will be the first time for arguably the best referee in the CECAFA region to officiate a game involving Mamelodi but he has before officiated Zamalek.

The first match was in 2014 Champions League as the ‘White Knights’ were facing Zambian side Nkana which ended 0-0. The second time was in this year’s tournament during Zamalek’s match against MO Béjaïa, as the Egyptian side won 2-0 in Cairo in the round of 16th.

In Uganda, Omweno is most remembered for being in charge of Uganda Cranes 1-0 loss to Togo at Namboole in the 2015 AFCON qualifiers.
