Lweza coach, Hamza Kalanzi was not an entirely happy man after his side played to a goalless draw on Tuesday against league debutants Onduparaka at the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole, but said ‘a point is okay.’

The Oranje looked set to register their third victory of the campaign with their first half performance, but a lackluster display in the subsequent half saw the Paddy Muhumuza captained side settle for a stalemate.

The side dictated proceedings in the first 45 minutes of the game with the trio of Hasan Kikoyo – scorer against Sadolin Paints and Soana, Yasin Mugume and James Kasibante taunting their opponents with endless attacks, but were undone by their questionable finishing.

Kalanzi who despite accepting the point was left disappointed said;

It is not the result we wanted. We had possession in the first half and should have gotten something out of it but failed. It is not the result we came for but a point is okay. It is a point gained rather than three lost.

Things changed in the second stanza as the visitors owned the half. Led by diminutive winger Gaddafi Gaddinho who had a cold first half, Onduparaka came back guns blazing.

Lweza had goalkeeper Brian Bwete and defender Musa Docca to thank for keeping matters at bay. The goalkeeper produced two spectacular saves in the early stages of the half to twice deny Gaddinho who expertly executed his free-kicks celebration, while Docca had to come to his team’s rescue with his two back to back exceptional clearances.

Such performance earned praise from the opponent’s coach.

You have to credit Onduparaka for such display especially away from home. When you look at experience in both teams, our team is more experienced and most of our players have played from here (Namboole) unlike them. Credit to them.

The result means Lweza have now registered four successive draws and are on a run of five games without a win. They rose a place to tenth with 12 points, dislodging Proline who were out of action.

Onduparaka also rose a place to eighth with 14 points.
