All Africa Black Ball Pool Championship – Day 1

Men:

  • Uganda 14-11 Zimbabwe
  • Uganda 19-06 South Africa

Ladies:

  • Zimbabwe 21-04 Kenya
  • Uganda 16-09 Zimbabwe
  • Uganda 13-12 South Africa 

Uganda has had a bright start to the All Africa Black Ball Pool Championship which cued off at Lugogo Indoor Arena in Kampala.

The men and women recorded two victories apiece on the opening day.

In the men’s category, Uganda overcame favourites South Africa 19-6 and stopped Zimbabwe 14-11.

Harzard Lukomwa won all his games with superb A- scores to inspire the rest of his teammates on day one.

Lukomwa and the reigning Nile Special Open champion Sula Matovu won all their matches against quartet Senzo Gumede, Africa number one Wetsi Morake, Yacoob Shaik and Cameron Thorps.

Other top performers for the hosts on day one were Jonah ‘Joker’ Turigye, Alfred Gumikiriza, Fahad Ssewankambo and Sula Matovu.

Under the ladies, Uganda outwitted Zimbabwe 16-9 before pipping South Africa 13-12. Ritah Nimunsiima to beat Olivia Leaner.

In other games, South Africa revenged 15-10 against Kenya and Kenya men were again on the recieving end losing 14-11 to Zambia.

Zimbabwe ladies humiliated their Kenyan counterparts 21-4 in a one sided encounter.

Day two of the tournament continues on Friday before the final show-down on Saturday.

South Africa is the tournament defending champion having won in Lesotho last year.
