Former SC Villa goalie Hannington Kalyesubula is back at the club but not as a goalkeeper.

The former Ugandan international has been signed as a goalkeeping coach on a two year deal following the departure of Christopher Lobbo who was sacked with his boss Deo Sserwadda.

Club supremo Ben Misagga confirmed the news in a brief interview with Kawowo Sports on Friday.

“We have offered him a two year deal,” confirmed Misagga.

Kalyesubula, who kept goal for the Jogoos in the early 2000s, winning the CECAFA Kagame Cup in 2003 under now Cranes coach Mulitin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic takes over from Valley Mugwanya who now takes full responsibility as team manager.

Mugwanya has been acting goalkeeping coach since Lobbo left.

The arrival of one of the most respected goalies of his time at the 16-time league champions is intended to polish the likes of Yasin Mugabi and Ashadu Bugembe who have cost the club valuable points with suspect goalkeeping this season.

Who is Kalyesubula?

According to Wikipedia, he was born in 1982 and started his career with SC Villa in 2000.

He was an understudy to Andrew Jjombwe and Posnet Omwony before he eventually took over and was at Villa Park up to 2004 before he moved to Police.

He was part of the Cops side that won the 2006 CECAFA Kagame Cup before he moved to S. George of Ethiopia where he spent two years (2006-2008).

He had a second stint at the Villa Park side on return from Addis but later moved to Tanzania with Kagera, had a short spell with KJT Rwenshama and his last club as goalie was at Mbeya City in the VPL which he quit this year.
