Zambia and TP Mazembe skipper Rainford Kalaba says his focus is now on helping his country reach the World Cup after the CAF Confederations Cup triumph.
Kalaba, a second half substitute in the 1-0 win over Uganda Cranes in an international friendly at Namboole on Tuesday said this in the aftermath.
“For us, playing at the World Cup is a dream we are chasing,” he said. “We have been at the nations Cup many times before but have never played at the World Cup. It’s a dream we want to achieve,” he added.
The Zambian number 17 has won almost everything at club level on the continent something he attributed to the discipline and hard work and also thanked the almighty God for the talent.
He didn’t guide TP Mazembe to the cup but also finished as the competition’s leading scorer with eight goals including two in the finals.
First of all, let me congratulate myself for achieving this in my career and for being the top scorer in that competition because there are a lot of good players.
I thank God for the talent. The discipline and hard work have paid off and I will keep on working hard.
The AFCON winner also hinted at how playing for the national team and the club come with varying demands but keeping focus remains key.
The pressure on the national team and club is different but I keep focus.
Zambia won the Africa Nations Cup in 2012 but failed to qualify for the forthcoming edition in Gabon.
They vie with giants Nigeria, Cameroon and Algeria for a slot at Russia 2018.
