Protea Hotel players celebrate last season

What better way to socialize, come together, sweat and relax off the usually challenging work stress than play a 7 -a -side football game on all green lush.

The corporate family in Entebbe Municipality now has a new a sporting product and plat form on the menu to show case silky skills of old, exercise as well as meet new friends.

This year, Protea Hotel are the inaugural champions of the gala played amongst 13 teams at Lake Victoria primary school play ground in Entebbe.

Protea Hotel gritted their teeth to win in a nail biting fashion 3-1 off post match penalties against Way to Africa Safaris Limited after normal time had eclipsed goal-less.

The idea of having the Entebbe Corporate football gala was minted by two individuals, former footballers and close friends – Silas Kal and Ronald Onzima.

Onzima notes, the idea was born to give a plat form to Corporates exercise as well as network;

There has been a big vaccum in Entebbe.

The Corporate gala, which will be an annual day event is here to provide entertainment, fun, networking platform and exercising avenue to keep fit.

Kal admits the tournament first edition had grey areas as players fighting each other but lauds the teams that participated in the event.

We had a few challenges here and there like any other beginning championship. I am happy for the 13 teams that registered and the players who took part.

Next year, the gala will be much better.

Bet Awards music winner Eddy Kenzo’s Elite under the Big Talent group played and won the day’s curtain raiser 1-0 against Entebbe International Football team.

Elite had the likes of Paul Mucureezi, Habibu Kavuma, Saddam Juma, Owen Kasule, Benjamin Ochan, Nelson Senkatuka, Simon Namwanja, Yasin Mugabi and Eddy Kenzo himself, among others all in action.

Protea was rewarded with a team glittering trophy with gold medals to each of the team members.

Way to Africa, the losing finalists got silver medals with bronze medals going to CAA.

The tournament was a day long event that witnessed over 100 players in action from 13 teams.
