Just like the previous season, new Kenya Premier League champions Tusker will receive Ksh. 4.5 million (Ugx. 153 million) as a prize money for the triumph.
Tusker, coached by Ugandan coach Paul Nkata won the 2016 title after beating AFC Leopards 1-0 to reach unassailable points with a game against Gor Mahia to go.
This was confirmed on the official KPL website by the Leagues and Competitions Administrator Michael Kirwa who also revealed SportPesa, the title sponsors will take charge of everything at the crowning ceremony on Saturday at Nyayo stadium.
SportPesa have promised to take care of everything and we have gone through, basically all the activities that should happen on Saturday.
After the game, Tusker players will retreat to the dressing room to change into their champions’ attire before they return to the pitch to receive the trophy. We expect everything to run smoothly.
Tusker will also receive Sh4.5 million in prize money for winning the league title.
The club isn’t only home to Nkata but compatriots Shafik Batambuze, Hashim Ssempala, Robert Omunuk and Martin Kizza.
Ex-SC Villa captain who skippered the Jogoos to the 2009 Uganda Cup, Tony Ndolo also features for the club that ended Gor Mahia’s three year reign as Kenyan champions.
The Ruaraka based side also pocketed Ksh. 2 million (Ugx. 6 million) for winning the Go TV Shield Cup (Uganda’s version of Uganda Cup) bringing the total prize money for the season to over Ugx. 200 million.
