Patricia ‘Black Pearl’ Apolot, arguably Uganda’s best female fighter at the moment takes on Tunisian opponent, Lahkrech Yosra for the African title.
Uganda’s Alex Matsiko will be against United Arab Emirates’ Khalil Dermech, fast improving Shakey Mubiru take on Tunisia’s Ben Anes Montassar in the other bout.
During the weigh-in exercise at HBT Hotel in Kampala, the fighters vowed to display their best.
“I can not afford to lose at my own home ground before my very own fans,” Patricia Apolot, whose record stands at 11 wins out of her 12 fights; six of which are knockouts noted.
Speaking in Arabic, Yosra said she in Uganda for a challenge and expects to win the belt.
Apolot weighed 60kg as her opponent was 10kg heavier. She was later requested to execute workouts before another weighing in exercise.
Matisko weighed 73.7kg as Khalil was lighter on 72.9kg. Mubiru weighed-in 66.5kg but his opponent was not present.
The bouts are part of the international as well as African championships dubbed, “The reign of giants’’ that has been organized by the Uganda Kickboxing Federation in partnership with Ampropen as a way of giving young kickboxers more international exposure.There are a couple of under card fights lined up.
