AWCON 2016 Final: Cameroon 0-1 Nigeria

A late winner from striker Desire Oparanozie ensured Nigeria overcome hosts Cameroon 1-0 in the final of the Africa Women Cup of Nations on Saturday before over 40,000 fans in the stands of Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium, Yaounde.

Oparanozie also the goal hero in the semi-finals against South Africa was once again in the limelight, netting five minutes from full time in a well contested final.

This has been the third time after 2004 and 2014 that Nigeria had beaten Cameroon in the final.

The Super Falcons thus claimed their 8th title having won in 1998, 2000, 2002, 2002, 2006, 2010 and 2014.

Earlier, in the third place playoff, Ghana defeated South Africa 1-0 to finish with the bronze medals.

Only Kenya in the entire CECAFA region played at the finals that had eight countries.
