When Ivan Bukenya traveled to India’s capital of West Bengal state – Kolkata back in 2012, he barely knew what the future would hold.
He walked out of the dug-out part of Iraqi team – Arbil SC that had emerged out of the group stages of the Asian Football Confederation Cup.
At the last whistle, Bukenya and colleagues celebrated.
They had won a crucial match 2-0, progressing with a great run till the finals where they lost to Al Kuwait as runners-up.
Four years later, Bukenya is back at the club. The club he termed “opponents”.

“I remember the game that I played here in Kolkata. It was a good and competitive match,” said Bukenya told India times.
East Bengal have signed the player till the end of the season. And the former Kaizer Chiefs regular is confident it will be winning all the time.
“I am confident about winning as wherever I have gone, I have won.”
The I-League is expected to kick-off on 7th January, 2017 and he hopes to gel into the team quick.
“Football is the same everywhere. It is only about adjusting to the new conditions. I feel two weeks is enough time to gel into a new team.”
