
InterClube de Luanda claimed the 2016 FIBA Africa Champions Cup for Women after outwitting tournament hosts Ferroviario de Maputo 67-49 on Sunday.
Guard Italee Lucas poured in game-high 26 points, with 15 coming from 3-point range to lead InterClube to their fifth continental championship.
Tournament Most Valuable Player Sequoia Holmes contributed 13 points while Pauline Akonga had 18 points in 21 minutes.

Anabela Cossa scored 17 points to lead Ferroviario de Maputo who played with slippery hands coughing up the ball 30 times.

InterClube got off a flying start with Lucas connecting successive triples. The Angolans were in dominant mode, led 22-7 at the end of the first quarter and never trailed.
The champions finished the tournament with an impressive 7-0 record.
Ferroviario, on the other hand, finished with a 5-2 record having lost to the same opponent on the tournament opening day. They however improved from their 3rd-place finish last year in Luanda, Angola.
Focus now turns to the men’s tournament that starts on Wednesday, December 7 through to December 16 in Cairo, Egypt.
