The busy chess calendar continues on Thursday 15th December as the inaugural Kireka Chess Club Open tournament takes center stage at Memerito Hotel Bweyogerere, Kampala.

Aimed at improving players’ ratings, the FIDE rated tournament has attracted over 50 players from the region including the top dogs in the country.

International Master Arthur Ssegwanyi, Fide Masters Harold Wanyama and Haruna Nsubuga are among the top players in attendance in what promises to be a hyper-competitive four-day event.

With the event offering inviting prizes for winners in the respective categories, contestants will fight for top honours in the Open and Ladies sections.

The ladies category has been spiced up with the confirmation of Women Fide Master Ivy Amoko. The 29 year old is the top seeded woman in East Africa with a rating of 1822.

Kireka Open is an event organized by Kireka Chess Cub. The side captained by Ivan Kaddu won this year’s National Chess League after beating DMARK 4-1 on the final day of the league.
