The third edition of the Zone V International Handball Federation (IHF) Challenge Trophy will have seven participants with hosts Uganda looking at defending the boys U20 trophy while the U19 girls will be looking at getting better than their second place finish from 2014.

The tournament that starts Saturday December 17 – 22, 2016 at Uganda Christian University Mukono will have Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, South Sudan and Burundi are the others.

The national boys’ team will be handled by Patrick Tabale and Ibra Kyaluze while the girls will be coached by Orotin Jimmy and Angwech Flavia

Rwanda has been a regular at the championship but playing second fiddle to Uganda in both categories, their assistant coach Anaclet Bagirishya making his side’s intentions clear.

It is not an easy group because we are together with the hosts and defending champions Uganda, but we have a strong team that can compete against anyone and we are ready to do our best to finish among the top two and qualify for the semi-finals

Rwanda has been drawn in group B along with hosts Uganda and South Sudan while Kenya, Burundi and Tanzania are in group A.

The top two teams from each group will progress to the semi-finals while the finalist will qualify for the Zone V IHF Challenge Trophy whose host is yet to be named.
