
Despite not playing active club football for more than five months, Togo team captain Emmanuel Sheyi Adebayor is part of coach Claude Le Roy’s 25 man provisional squad ahead of the AFCON 2017 finals in Gabon.
Another surprise inclusion on the team is midfielder Victor Nukafu who plays for Entente II, a second division club in the Togolese football (an equivalent of the FUFA Big League in Uganda).
The West African side, nick named the ‘Sparrow Hawks’ is pooled in Group B with the reigning champions Ivory Coast, DR Congo and Morocco.
This group will be based in Oyem city.
Togo will open their tournament with a match against Ivory Coast on 6th January 2017 at the Oyem Stadium.
Le Roy will name the final 23 man squad early January.
