KCCA will face Angolan side Clube Desportivo 1º de Agosto – famously known as Clube Desportivo Primeiro de Agosto – in the preliminary round of the CAF Champions League.
The two sides face off in the second week of February 2017 with the aggregate winner over two legs to tussle it out with African champions Mamelodi Sundowns for a slot in the last 16 of the competition.

10 -time Angolan champions
Currently the champions of Angola, Clube Desportivo 1º de Agosto have won 10 league titles and are just five adrift of the record league winners, Petro de Luanda.
Their first title came in 1979 and the 2016 title has come ten years after their most previous championship in 2006.
They are mainly funded by the Angola armed forces
Like Simba in Uganda, the club, founded in August 1977 is attached to the Angolan armed forces.
The Angolan army is the main sponsor of the football that is part of the multi-sports Clube Desportivo 1º de Agosto that also have a basketball, Handball and Volleyball among others
They have played at the group stages of the CAF Champions League before
Unlike KCCA or any other Ugandan side that have never played in the lucrative group stages of Africa’s biggest football competitions, the Angolan side have played in the group stages of the CAF Confederations Cup.
They achieved the feat in 2009 after dropping to the second tier of the continental competition when they lost at the round of 16 in the CAF Champions League.
Played in the finals of the now defunct CAF winners’ Cup
In 1998, Clube Desportivo 1º de Agosto lost in the finals of the CAF Winners’ Cup but lost 4-1 on aggregate to Tunisian side ES Tunis.
The African Cup Winners’ Cup was a football competition that started in 1975 and merged with the CAF Cup in 2004 to form the CAF Confederations Cup.
It was a competition between the winning clubs of national competitions in CAF-affiliated nations and was modeled before ACUC’s ACUC Club Winners’ Cup, which is the future in Africa.
Their star player Jacinto Muondo Dala aka Gelson was born in 1996
By the time they play KCCA, Gelson maybe a Sporting Lisbon B player but the youngster will have left a mark at Clube Desportivo 1º de Agosto.
The youngster scored a record 23 league goals last season and at just 20, he has already made his national team debut and has 9 goals in 18 caps.
On December 8, he is reported to have agreed a deal to move to Portugal for a career at Sporting B.
