January 5, 2017 will go down as one of Denis Onyango’s most memorable days of his footballing career.
The Uganda Cranes and Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper won the 2016 African Player of the Year (Based in Africa) Award at the Glo CAF Awards held at the Abuja International Conference Center.
Onyango who has had an incredible run over the past year, wining the Premier Soccer League title and the CAF Champions League took to his Facebook Page to express gratitude to every individual who has contributed to his success.

He beat teammate Khama Billiat of Zimbabwe and TP Mazembe’s Rainford Kalaba (Zambia) to the award.
Meanwhile, his club Mamelodi Sundowns won the Club of the Year Award as his national team Uganda Cranes won the National Team of the Year award.
