A couple of Ghanaian sides ensured Ugandan Clubs endure a horrendous start at the Africa Cup of Club Championship being held at City Park Stadium, Nairobi- Kenya.
Just hours after Weatherhead [M] lost 6-2 to a Ghanaian side Exchequers, fellow debutants Wananchi [W] also endured defeat to another Ghanaian side.
The reigning National Hockey League champions suffered a debasing loss to Ghana Revenue Authority as the West Africans sailed to a comfortable 11-0 victory.
Wananchi who scored the most number of goals in the league last season were reduced to a toothless side as the side troubled not their opponents.
It was the first time Wananchi was conceding in double figures. The side known for inflicting embarrassing defeats to its opponents back home ended on the receiving end.
Wananchi had gone into the game in assertive mood with midfielder Topista Anyango saying “As Wananchi, we have been training so hard for this event. Despite this being our first time in the competition, we believe we will do well. There’s not so much difference between us and those teams.”
But the Ghanaians turned out a very strong side than Anyango anticipated.
Wananchi face another Ghanaian side Ghana Police on Sunday and will hope for a decent result.
