International friendly match: Burkina Faso 2-1 Mali

Burkina Faso defeated Mali 2-1 during an international friendly match in preparation for 2017 Africa Cup of Nations.

Jonathan Zongo opened the scoring for Burkina Faso few minutes before of the break – Bertrand Traoré doubling the lead 12 minutes into the second half.

Mustapha Yatabaré reduced the deficit for Mali in the 68th minute as both sides failed to add more goals – the game ending 2-1, a victory for Burkina Faso.

Mali was drawn in Group D alongside Egypt, Uganda and Ghana. They will kick-off their campaign against the Pharaohs on Jan. 17 before facing Ghana and Uganda, respectively.

Mali will face Algeria on Tuesday in their final warm-up ahead of kicking off the tournament, which is set to take place in Gabon between Jan. 14 and Feb. 5.

On Friday,Uganda claimed a 1-0 victory over Slovenia two days after losing 2-0 against Tunisia.

The Pharaohs are scheduled to host Tunisia on Sunday night as Uganda also plays Slovakia the same day.

Uganda Cranes will wind up the international friendly list with a date against the reigning African champions, Cote D’Ivoire on the 11th January 2017 at the New York University stadium in Dubai.
