While the 2017 National Rally Championship (NRC) calendar still in draft, preparations for the season opener continue to advance in Mbarara.
The NRC season is set to kick off on the 27-29th January in Mbarara
Unlike before, the Mbarara Motor Club opted to have the event fully organised in Mbarara. Over the last year, day one of the event has been hosted in Masaka.
The MMC Rally advancement comes along with a new double circuit.
“We chose to have the whole event in Mbarara after acquiring a venue for the super special stage.
“That was the main reason we had to organise from Masaka. Secondly, competitors continuously complained about the long transport sections,” explained the Clerk of the Course of MMC rally David Nsobya.
Unfamiliar routes are expected in the MMC Rally.
“We tried to run on different routes that drivers are used to. They should expect new stages along with the old ones,” Nsobya added.
The rally fraternity is in anticipation of the new season and keen to see how this year’s crop of drivers match up to the anticipated tight competition.
Hassan Alwi tops the list of key drivers to watch this season. Alwi finished second overall in the NRC. His performance raised the question whether he will be able to pull off the same pace into the new year.
Ronald Sebuguzi, Andrew Desh Kananura, Duncan Mubiru and others will all be up to make a twist from last year’s performance.
