Former volleyball player Hadijah Namanda made history as the first female ever to be elected into office as the president of the Uganda Volleyball Federation (UVF) on Sunday at Lugogo.

The mother of two was competing against Joseph Odong and Eddie Okila and she managed to collect 57 votes.

That was nine better than Odongo who managed 48 votes while Okila had only 21 votes.

Namanda’s deputies will be Isima Bagaga who collected 89 votes against Joseph Mary Sempiira’s 32 to win the post of first vice president, the second vice president Patricia Ahumuza was unopposed.

Adam Mugisha collected 78 votes beating Apollo Kalanzi whose return was 47, while Cornelius Enwenyu will serve in the office of general secretary after collecting 94 votes to Hassan Ssekajoolo’s 31 votes.

Namanda is expected to soon name her full executive before operations fully start at a time the sport is in turmoil.
