Uganda Cranes captain Geoffrey Massa and midfielder Khalid Aucho have been released by their South African club employers Baroka Football Club according to a South African website www.soccerladuma.co.za.

The Premier Soccer League side has released the players currently with the national team ahead of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations along side striker Tshepo “Skhwama Sama Tariyana” Matete.

The news was confirmed by Baroka FC’s media officer Jimmy Ngobeni on Thursday before ruling out that the move depended on the side’s new technical director, Mark Harrison, and head coach, Jacob Sakala.

We have also released midfielder, Khalid Aucho as well as two strikers, Victor Letsoalo and Geoffrey Massa. They’re busy assessing whether more players will be signed or released.

The South African league has been criticized by many foreigners especially Ugandans as one that favors the natives and gives outsiders little playing time.

This comes at a time when another Ugandan Denis Onyango led his South African side Mamelodi Sundowns to the CAF Champions League triumph.

The trusted shot stopper is also currently the best footballer based on the African continent and is ranked number ten in the top 13 goalkeepers in the world.
