The first round of 2017 National Motocross championship heralded a major success for the season with a bigger number of new riders that featured on Sunday.

The season opener had over 70 riders fighting for top positions with an impressive number of motocross enthusiasts watching on the sidelines at the Victoria race track, Garuga.

A number of riders managed to capitalise on the day to take the lead in their respective classes.

William Blick was the star of the Peewee class while Miguel Katende and Ernest Katongole finished in second and third respectively.

Isabella Blick showed intent to defend her MX50 title by topping the first round with 55 points followed by Malcom Omonding and Gift Sebuguzi.

Alon Orland edged Akena Obote to the MX65 class win with Habib Kiggundu finishing third.

MX85 provided the day’s thrills as the Orland brothers;Aviv and Stav rode neck to neck along with Fortune Sentamu and Ben Nsumba. However, it was Aviv and Stav who took first and second while Nsumba finished in third.

More thrilling action was exhibited in the MX125 between Alestair Blick and Ali Omar Yasser, with the former topping the class.

Yasin Kasirye topped MX2 followed by Ali Kigozi and Anwar Kabiito.

The senior class summed up the day’s action. The MX1 class had one newer member; Olivier Van Pee who was making a return to racing.

It is his younger brother Maxime Van Pee that managed to dominate the class with Asaf Natan in second. Olivier took third place while ten time MX champion Arthur Blick Jr settled for fourth.

The second round is scheduled for March 19th.
