AFCON 2017 (Group A):
- 1st Match: Gabon 1-1 Burkina Faso
- 2nd Match: Cameroon 2-1 Guinea Bissau
Cameroon Indomitable Lions roared over the Guinea Bissau ‘wild dogs’ with a 2-1 win during the their second Group A games at the 2017 AFCON at the Stade de l’Amitie in Libreville on Wednesday night.
Piqueti, who plays for Sporting Braga’s B team in the Portuguese second tier, put the minnows ahead after just 13 minutes with a contender for goal of the tournament as the surprise team took a 1-0 half time lead.
He outpaced Georges Mandjeck before bulleting home past goalkeeper Fabrice Ondoa.
Sebastien Siani pounded the equalizer just after the hour mark from about 20 yards before defender Michael Ngadeu drilled home the winning goal in almost a similar fashion 12 minutes from full time.
Christian Bassogog, who set up defender Ngadeu, was named the Total Man of the Match.
Cameroon (with 4 points) now requires a draw against host nation Gabon in their last group game on Sunday to progress to the knock out competition.
Meanwhile, Burkina Faso will lock horns with Guinea-Bissau on the same day at the same time to avoid syndicate.
Burkina Faso and Gabon have 2 points apiece and Guinea Bissau with one.
Each of the four countries has a realistic chance of progressing to the quarter finals.
Thursday action switches to Group B. Algeria plays Tunisia in the Magreb derby before Senegal will take on Zimbabwe in the second match.
