When Uganda Cranes take on Mali  in the final Group D match at Stade D’Oyem, one key player will be out of action because of injury.

The reigning CAF African footballer of the year, Dennis Onyango will not take part in the match because of a recurrence hamstring injury concern.

Onyango sat out the team’s last two training sessions in the forested Bitam town since arrival form Port Gentil.

“Onyango has been ruled out of the match because of injury. He was not even able to train in Oyem,” a team member who requested not to be named spoke to Kawowo Sports because he is not the official Cranes media official nor team doctor.

The Mamelodi Sundowns shot stopper was in scintillating form during Uganda Cranes’ opening two matches against Ghana Black Stars and the Egypt Pharoahs that Uganda lost 1-0.

He looked uncomfortable in the later stages of the game against Egypt.

Onyango remains a loyal servant to the team and has been part of the training sessions watching from the side lines.

In his absence, St. George goalkeeper Robert Odongkara and El Merriekh Salim Jamal will be considered between the goal posts.

Awany and Sentamu doubtful:

Two other players; defender Timothy Awany, who features for KCCA and Finnish based striker Yunus Junior Sentamu are also doubtful for the game.

Awany is sick whilst Sentamu is reported to be on a suspension over an ‘indiscipline incident’.

Uganda Cranes will merely play for pride against Mali.
