Heading to the semifinals of the 2017 AFCON tournament in Gabon, the four remaining countries started immediate preparations.

On Monday, the Ghana Black Stars team that defeated Democratic Republic of Congo 2-1 at Stade D’Oyem in the forested town of Oyem left for Mongomo in Equatorial Guinea by a helicopter.

From Mongomo, they connected to Franceville, the Southern town in Gabon where their semifinal against the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon shall take place on Thursday.

On Wednesday, Burkina Faso will host Egypt at Stade De L’Amitie in Libreville in the first semifinal.

In the quarterfinals, it was a show for the Ayew brothers, Jordan Pierre Ayew and Andre Ayew who scored in Ghana’s 2-1 victory over a very physical DR Congo side.

Panathinaikos midfielder Paul Jose Mpoku had created some hope with a superb goal when he netted a stunning equalizer moments after Jordan’s opener.

Andre buried the game off with 13 minutes left on the clock after a well converted penalty when Christian Atsu teased and twisted Lomalisa Mutambala with pace and trickery before the AS Vita defender wrestled down the Newcastle intelligent winger.

This was Black Stars’ 14th time of reaching the semifinals in the 21 appearances at the Africa Cup of Nations.

They are aiming for the 5th title having won the tournament in 1962, 1964, 1978 and 1982.
