Former Vipers and Uganda Cranes midfielder Mike ‘Sulaiman’ Mutyaba has announced retirement from football.

The attacking midfielder, arguably among the most gifted of his generation made the revelation in a Facebook message on Thursday.

The former El Merriekh and TP Mazembe attacker finished his short but illustrious career at Express, a side he has played for twice after leaving Vipers.

A statement from the player read:

Am here to officially announce my retirement from active football. I want to thank my family, Fufa, Mr. Lawrence Mulindwa, all coaches who did a great job towards my career, footballers local and international, fans, friends, Agents, Abdelbagi and all the clubs that I have played for.
It’s a beautiful game; please parents support kids to play. Will always miss you football.
Next is football administration thanks Mr. Moses Magogo for the offer as well.

Mutyaba started his professional career with Vipers, then Bunamwaya in 2008 and was instrumental as the side lifted their first league title in 2010 and was also part of the side that lifted the title in 2014/15.

He also had stints with Sudan giant club, El Merriekh between 2011 and 2013 before moving to former African champions, TP Mazembe.

In DR Congo, things didn’t go well and he was loaned back to Vipers in 2014.
