For the entire January transfer window, the name Ibrahim Saddam Juma has been the most talked about on the domestic scene.
The attacking midfielder was a subject of transfer speculation with KCCA, at one time nearly announcing his arrival at Lugogo from rivals Express and so did URA on the deadline.
But the midfielder remained at Express against all odds and here are the reasons why.
Matia Lule
The midfielder has a very good relationship with Express coach Matia Lule. It stems long time back while Juma was still developing as a kid.
The two understand each other so well and Saddam believes he still has a lot to learn from the gaffer.
The need to repay Express’ faith
When the former KKL start was let go by Vipers at the end of last season, not many clubs offered him a chance.
The Red Eagles did and he feels this isn’t the right time to leave them, after all, they need him most in their rebuilding of the side and for that reason, he is repaying the faith and trust.
Unsatisfying offers
It wasn’t just about KCCA or URA, SC Villa and Kenya’s Tusker all tabled offers for the lad but perhaps, they were below his value.
“I can only move with the right offer on table,” he said. “I am not in a rush and if the offers don’t match what I feel am worth, I will stay at Express,” he added.
Career development
Saddam, twice league champions with Vipers feels there is a lot to improve on his side and feels Express offers the best chance.
“I want to stay at Express and work even harder than before,” he told Kawowo Sports. “While here, I feel I have the opportunity to improve.”
The new signings at Wankulukuku
Truth be told, the new Express skipper wasn’t so much impressed with the squad at Wankulukuku in the first half of the season.
Not that the side lacked quality but he feels they weren’t hungry enough. “I see a lot in the boys signed,” he admitted. “They are hungry and want to improve and that made me stay here to play with people who need to win all games not ones who care less after the loss or draw.”
