Entebbe Vs Masavu – Bugonga, 4:30pm

Masavu team players at Lake Victoria Primary School before a friendly against Entebbe Select.

Current Rwenzori Group leaders in the FUFA Big League, Masavu make a short trip across Entebbe town to play former Premier league side, Entebbe F.C in a highly anticipated explosive derby match.

The fixture arrives at an unfortunate timing when the two sides are in a contrasting form.

Whereas Masavu is currently leading 13-team log with a comfortable 33 points, Entebbe lingers in the mid-table having managed just 15 points from 13 games.

Fine, there could be a massive gap of 18 points separating two sides, but the truth is, the fixture will not be a mere walk in the park for Masavu.

The final outcome will be determined by the slightest details of any closely contested football game to be played.

This will be the fourth meeting of the two clubs since Masavu’s inception.

Masavu has managed one victory coming last year’s 1-0 win at Katabi when Kenneth Tumusiime scored a long range effort that won the day.

The other two encounters have been goalless draws at Bugonga and lately at Katabi Gombolola last year.

Key actors:

Derby matches are determined by finer details where teamwork often overrides individual brilliance.

Also, the team that does their homework to perfection – tactically, physically and technically is bound to smile home with the most desirable result on the day.

Usually, fans spice up such engagements and often times could be so passionate and at most chaotic.

Individual players light up derbies no question.

In the Bugonga game, Entebbe will look to the leadership potentiality of long serving captain Sunday Mukiibi.

Mukiibi has been one of the most loyal players for Entebbe F.C since the club founding days.

He will be backed by a crop of up-coming players like Mande Ikesit, Gospel Mangeni, Godfrey Sserubogo, Lawrence Bajja, goalie Steven Tabu and the footballing gem Abraham Ndugwa.

Masavu looks forward three players who incidentally played at Entebbe in Ddumba Sadala, Charles Odeke and Onesmas Andama for inspiration.

Prodigal son Kenneth Tumusiime misses this crucial fixture due to personal commitments.

Other key players for team Masavu will be goalkeeper Yusuf Wasswa, Moses Kiggundu, experienced defender Lawrence Bakiranze and the their two fast paced wingers Fred Umon and Sadi Kibirango.

Other Sunday games:

There are four other games coming up on Sunday. Bright Light hosts Busia Fisheries, Simba entertains Elgon leaders Maroons at Mashariki High School, Water will play Kireka at Kibuli S.S playground and Ndejje University will take on Kira United in Luwero.

Three clubs are fighting for the available three slots to the Uganda Premier League.
