George Ssenkaaba was delighted to mark his first appearance at his new club Kirinya-Jinja SSS with a brace during their 2-0 victory at Sadolin Paints on Sunday.
The league debutants were frustrated in the first half, with numerous opportunities missed but their new man fired Abbey Bogere’s charges in front just after recess.
Ssenkaaba doubled his tally with an excellent shot to hand Kirinya-Jinja SSS their first ever victory in the Uganda Premier League.
“It couldn’t have gone any better,” said an exultant Ssenkaaba.
“It’s a special moment for me because I scored on my first appearance and the team was able to win for the first time this season. Our play was fantastic the entire game. I’m happy for our performance.
“I came here to get enough playing time. The coach showed trust in me. I’m happy I was able to repay him on my first appearance. Hopefully this continues.
Like most of his teammates, Ssenkaaba is optimistic the side placed 14th with 13 points will not go down. The forward believes Kirinya-Jinja SSS will survive relegation.
“We just needed the first win. Now that we have found our winning touch, the confidence is back on the team. I’m confident we shall survive relegation.”
