In the battle of cities, Mbarara reigned over Kasese during the national second tier football, the FUFA Big League.

Mbarara City overcame visiting Suncity from Kasese 2-1 during the Rwenzori Group game played at the Kakyeka stadium over the weekend.

South Sudanese lanky forward, Makweth Awol scored a brace for Mbarara.

The victory guaranteed Mbarara City three precious points in the pouch and hope for catch up with the leading pack – Masavu and Nyamityobora in the group.

“This victory means a lot to us. We do not want to lose any other match because our target to get promoted to the super division. We are taking every game like a cup final,” Ronnie Santos Mwine, the club official mouth piece told Kawowo Sports.

Mbarara City is coached by the tried, trusted and tested veteran coach Richard Makumbi, whose record of promoting clubs to the top division emits huge volumes.

Sun City makes the trip to Entebbe where they are supposed to play Masavu on Tuesday at the Katabi Gombolola playground.

Mbarara City is at the same time warming up for Masavu’s visit this Saturday in Mbarara.

Masavu currently tops the Rwenzori Group with 34 points (from 15 matches) whilst Maroons is aloft the Elgon Group with 38 points from 16 matches.
