The Masaka Recreational Stadium shall thus host their remaining home games in the league effective with the Onduparaka game.

This development was confirmed on Thursday during a brief ceremony held at the Masaka Recreational stadium.

Club president Ben Immanuel Misagga told the media that the Jogoos are glad to return home, a fortress where the club traces its roots.

SC Villa has a great attachment to Masaka. It is where the club started from during the golden days of club president, Patrick Kawooya (R.I.P)

This is the fourth time in three years that SC Villa Jogoo has changed their home ground.

They have previously played at the Mityana Ssaza ground, Namboole and lately Nakivubo War Memorial stadium.

The current re-development plan for Nakivubo stadium has led to the closure of the oldest footballing facility in the country as it is expected to be ready for use by 2018.

About Masaka Recreational Stadium:

The Masaka Recreation Ground is the oldest sports facility in Masaka.

It was built in 1956 and commissioned  by Sir Andrew Cohen, the Governor of Uganda at the time.

Since then, the stadium has been in a slow decline with the ground turning barren due to the prolonged drought and over-use.

At the moment, part of the perimeter fencing has been down, with the sanitary facilities gone to the dogs.

Meddie Kiwalabye, the stadium manager, says three toilets built in 2004 were closed because Masaka Municipality failed to pay a bill of 100,000 shillings owed to the National Water and Sewerage Corporation.

According to Kiwalabye, Masaka municipality has failed to run the stadium.

Money collected from football matches and music concerts at Masaka Recreation Ground is never used to renovate the stadium or to improve the services offered.

Joseph Buyondo Ssesimba, a former Municipal Secretary for Health, says he is embarrassed by the current condition of the stadium.

David Isabirye is a senior staff writer for Kawowo Sports where he covers most of the major events.
