South African Thabo Masina will represent his nation at the 2017 Kampala World Cross Country championships due March 26 at Kololo Independence Grounds.
The athlete will travel to Uganda’s capital after competing in the South Regions Championships in Botswana.
He made the qualification mark at the Cross Country Championship selection for the World Championships, which were held in George in September.
“I obtained position three and six overall,” he told African Reporter.
“I was proud of myself for being able to make it because I had attempted a few times but failed in the nationals.
“I am ready for the competition because of the preparation and hard work that I put in daily.
“I am working hard; I start practice every morning at 4am and again at 5pm and implement the advice I receive from my coaches and the team. I know that I will not make it without their help.”
Athletics South Africa named a provisional 50-member squad; comprising 14 Senior Men, and 12 athletes in each of the senior Women, Junior Men and Junior Women categories.
Ikageng Gaorekwe and Kabelo Melamu will be competing in their first seasons as senior athletes.
