Brian Nkuubi scored a free kick late in the game to earn Vipers a hard fought 2-1 win over Bul FC at Kakindu despite falling behind in the first half.

Villa Oromchan gave the hosts a deserved lead after 37 minutes but former Bul defender, Aggrey Madoi equalised from the spot in the 57th minute before Nkuubi won it with two minutes to the final whistle.

In an end to end game on Friday afternoon, Oromchan put the self-proclaimed Eastern Giants in the lead with a good strike off a rebound from Halid Lwaliwa as the first half ended 1-0 in favour of Bul who had Coach Frank ‘Video’ Anyau missing on the bench.

In the second half, Bul maintained their A game but was Vipers that got the goal with Madoi scoring from a penalty after Milton Kariisa, another former Bul player was brought down in the area by Gerald Bagoole.

It continued to be a sea-saw of events with Yuda Mugalu, Oromchan and Robert Achema asking questions to the visitors’ backline while Nkuubi, Kariisa and Moses Waiswa, who had a good game also, did the same to the Bul backline.

But with the game destined to end in a stalemate, Kariisa was fouled near the edge of the area and Nkuubi saw his effort hit the back of the net to send the visiting fans into frenzy.

The win, Vipers’ first at Bul since December 19, 2014 earned the two-time champions their second win of the second round and lifts them to 3rd on the log with 32 points, same as Onduparaka who have an inferior goal difference.

The loss is a big blow to Bul who are fighting for their lives as they stay second from the bottom on the table with 16 points after 19 games.
