2017 Gorillas in the Mist Rally is one event WO1 Ismail Lule will never forget in the nineteen years of his rally career ever.
The service man drove his Seat Ibiza to victory in the 2WD category over the weekend in Kabale Rally .
“This is so great. I am feeling very happy for this win. I did not expect it in the first place,” he excitedly told Kawowo Sports.
“The event was very challenging for everyone especially for our small cars, but us coming out as the winners, is something so great for us,” he added.
Only two 2WD cars of the eight category starters completed the rally with Rwanda’s Fabrice Nyirindandi taking second place.

Lule started rallying in a Toyota Levin Supercharger over fifteen years ago.
“My years of rallying have not be so impressing considering the car, the logistics needed and others. Many things have always let us down.”
“That is why I am so happy for this win. I was so determined from the start of the rally. And the fact I know the strength of my car, I didn’t strain it so much as I wanted to finish,” he said.
Lule and his co-driver Stephen Bunya now lead the 2WD category with 25 points; the only 2WD crew with points this season so far.
“I will try to do better in the next event. Never know we could win the championship as well,” he asserted.
