When KCCA FC take on Mamelodi Sundowns in the first leg of the CAF Champions League pre-group round on Friday at the Lucas Moripe Stadium, there is one certainty.

The African champions will be without Ugandan goalkeeper and last year’s CAF Player of the Year – based in Africa, Denis Onyango.

And to KCCA midfielder, Isaac Kirabira the absence of the rear guard in goal for Sundowns is a blessing in disguise for the visitors.

“I don’t know about the other goalkeepers at Sundowns but Onyango is a key player, the best goalkeeper and best player in Africa, so his absence is a blessing in disguise for us,” he told the club website.

The Kasasiro had a training session on Wednesday morning at the Tshwane University of Technology Sports Complex in Pretoria and the defensive midfielder talked of the redness of the team to take on African champions.

Kirabira said: “We are ready as a team. We respect them because they are the defending champions but we are also champions back home

“I got the chance to watch them on TV and they play with speed especially in the midfield. We just need to be more cautious and play as a unit because we at least know what they are capable of.”

KCCA FC knocked out Primeiro de Agosto on away goals rule after a 2-2 aggregate score to get to this stage of the competition.
