It is the end of an epoch! Issa Hayatou’s 29-year reign as CAF President is over after eight successive terms in office.
Madagascar Football Federation (MFF) president, Ahmad Ahmad has been elected new CAF President at the 39th CAF Ordinary General Assembly held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Ahmad, 57, defeated Cameroon’s Hayatou in a closely contested poll having garnered 34 votes out of the possible 54.
Hayatou tallied 20 votes in the polls from the delegates.
At the same assembly, Zanzibar, which has been a semi autonomous member has become a full member of CAF to become the 55th member state.
