Vanguard University Lions expedition in the 37th annual NAIA Division I Women’s Basketball National Tournament came to an end on Monday night.

The Lions fell to Lewis-Clark State College 65-41 in the semifinal of the tournament.

Ugandan, Claire Lamunu netted 15 points and picked 19 rebounds to tally her 25th double-double of the season in a losing effort.

The Lions started the first quarter with a quick 5-0 lead but there after was all Lewis-Clark Warriors who won the quarter on 19-12 and never looked back.

Vanguard’s cold streak continued in the second quarter as the Warriors pushed it to an 18 point advantage midway the period and were up 34-20 at the end of the period.

It was more of the same in the third when the teams switched side. Warriors were red hot while the Lions were flat out missing shots and all was nothing but done despite signs of recovery in the fourth.

Hanna Tabron the only other Vanguard player to reach double figures scored 11 points, 9 of which came in the first quarter.

Brooke Litalien led Lewis-Clark State College’s team effort with 13 points, Jossilyn Blackman added 12 points while Hailey Turner and Brittany Tackett contributed 10 points each and Caelyn Orlandi dished out 12 assists.
