Former Vipers (then Bunamwaya) striker Charles Odeke struck the lone goal on the day in Masavu Football Club’s routine home victory against a hard fighting Baza Holdings at the Katabi Gomobolola playground.

The lanky bearded center forward was well stationed to drill home a 20th minute rebound off a poorly cleared free-kick from another former Vipers’ player Ddumba Sadala.

Before then, the visitors had dominated possession and created the best scoring opportunities through Umar Bulega and Samson Abbey Mutyaba.

Even after the goal, Baza Holdings remained focused and attacked endlessly to get the equalizer that never materialized.

Masavu’s head coach, Allan Kabonge Kivewala once again missed on the team’s technical bench (because the Ug.shs 500,000 fine levied to him for abusing a match referee has not been cleared).

Stand in coach, Alex Gitta (also the Technical Director at the club) handled the club alongside assistant coach Andrew Mugagga.

An overwhelmed Gitta, a CAF ‘A’ certified coach praised the character of his players with a Premier League slot in sight.

I so happy for my players. We were a complete unit and we look forward our next matches.

Among the hundreds of fans who graced the match was Mathias Lule, Express head coach who plays Masavu in the Uganda Cup this Saturday at Wankulukuku stadium.

Second placed Mbarara City suffered a 3-2 loss to Kireka United at the Nelson Mandela National stadium outside playground.

Former Victors, The Saints and Express forward Eric ‘Bucha’ Ssebuguzi grabbed a brace in the match for the home side.

Derrick Jurua was also on the mark for Kireka United.

Gilvas Niwagaba restored a goal back for the visitors through a protested penalty and Methodius Bassy got the other consolation goal to create a tense finish to the game.

Masavu now accumulates 46 points to open up a 10 point lead with a game in hand.

Away in Northern Uganda, home club Sporting United edged visiting Kyambogo 2-1 in a rain laden fixture played at the Lango Sports Ground in Lira Municipality.

Halftime ended one-all before Sporting United sealed the victory in the second stanza of the game.

Three clubs shall be promoted to the Uganda Premier league.
