After becoming the first two-wheel drive Africa Rally Champion ever last year, Ismail Shermohamed is at it again, this time aiming at bigger things; the ARC title.
Shermohamed acquired a new car, the Toyota Yaris S2000; formerly owned by Giniel De Villiers and Ernie Van De Walt.
“I felt there wasn’t enough 2WD competition in ARC and I would easily win it again. And yet I enjoy the thrill to compete.
“So with the majority in four wheel drive, I thought I should go for it and fight for the big title as well,” he told Kawowo Sports.
Shermohamed however predicts bigger challenges ahead of him considering he will be racing a four wheel drive car for the first time.
Unlike last year when he drove under the Zambia flag, Shermohamed will be representing Tanzania in the championship this year.
“If all goes as planned, South Africa will be my first ARC round this year. And hopefully we will do all the remaining ARC events. But I just cant wait to seat in a cockpit again,” he said.
Two rounds of the seven championship series have been covered.
The third round is due April 21-22th in South Africa.
