South Africa Premier Soccer League champions Mamelodi Sundowns are reportedly set to sign Ghana goalkeeper Richard Ofori.
The WA All Stars goalie is said to be close to joining the Brazilians, who already have three rear guards in Uganda Cranes’ Denis Onyango, Wayne Sandilands and Kennedy Mweene on their books
According to ghanasoccernet.com, the 22-year-old who was in goal for Ghana at the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon last month, will sign a long term deal with Sundowns after arriving in South Africa on Friday.
A statement on the Ghanaian website as quoted by Goal reads: “The Ghana Premier League winner with WA All Stars will sign a three-year deal with the Brazilians.
“The highly-rated glovesman has agreed a deal with the African champions and will put pen-to-paper on a long term deal.
“The 22-year-old impressed during a trial session at the club after the end of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations.
“Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane is convinced about the qualities of the Ghanaian international and feels that he (Ofori) will provide better competition to Ugandan Denis Onyango.”
Onyango has been Sundowns first choice goalie over the past couple of seasons guiding the Masandawana to the League title and CAF Champions League glory in the process.
He was named the PSL Player of the Year and the CAF Player of the Year – base in Africa last year.
