Premier League side Lweza played out a one-all draw with Maroons on Saturday morning at Luzira Prisons ground in a friendly match.
Maroons took the lead through Julius Kizito in the 24th minute to end the first half in their favour, but Henry Wamala put the visitors level in the 68th minute, and the friendly ended all square.
Despite being a friendly, the Prisoners halted a losing run of two games. Maroons register their first loss in the Big League two weeks ago when they lost 2-1 to their Elgon Group rivals Ndejje University, and that loss was followed by a defeat to another group rival Kira United on Thursday.
Asaph Mwebaze’s charges top the Elgon Group with 39 points and are looking to earn an automatic promotion to the Premier League, but with only three games of play left for the side, the two successive losses put their chances at risk as only five points now separate them from second placed Ndejje, and six from Kira.
The side plays Sporting United next on Thursday next week as they continue with their hunt for top flight football.
Meanwhile, Lweza can’t seem to find a winning touch. Saturday friendly presented them with an opportunity to restore some confidence in the team, but they failed to beat a Big League team.
The Kajansi side has failed to win a league game in 2017, and now find themselves battling with relegation.
While Maroons are most likely to play top flight football next season, Lweza could find themselves back in the Big League. The side occupies the 14th position in the league with only 22 points collected from as many games.
