Club Friendly: Police 0-0 Kampala Select
Uganda Premier League side Police FC was held to a goal-less draw by a Kampala Select side in a friendly match played at the Kibuli Secondary School playground.
This was hours after Police had secured a slot in the quarter finals of the Uganda Cup with a hard fought 9-8 post match penalty victory against Buganda Regional side, Kyetume in Nakisunga – Mukono district.
Abdallah Mubiru fielded a side that majorly has had less playing time this season to help them attain the required match fitness levels.
Kampala Select side had players as former Police winger Umar Bulega, defender Steven Kawuma and out of sorts Darling Motema Pembe striker Davis Kasirye.
Kasirye troubled the Police side for long spells in the opening half before he faded off the scene in the subsequent half.
Later in the second half, Mubiru introduced lanky left back Arafat Ggaliwango and veteran forward Anthony ‘Cassano’ Bongole who ignited pace and urgency to the game but yielded no fruits in terms of goals recorded.
Police is preparing for Friday’s league duel against KCCA at the Nelson Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.
Mubiru believes Friday’s match is of great value as far as the survival chances of his team are concerned.
We play on Friday against KCCA and that is why we are engaging the players early enough. We need maximum points from the match.
The only concern at the moment is the issue of loaned players from KCCA who may not play in the game. But, there are able replacements.
Police is currently 11th on the 16 team log with 24 points off 22 games played so far.
