First half goals from Joseph Ssemujju and Ibrahim Saddam Juma were enough to hand Bright Stars their sixth defeat of the campaign as Express cruised to their third successive league victory for the first time this season.

Semujju fired the visitors in front in the 36th minute, before Saddam’s quality free kick moments before the referee blew his whistle for recess doubled the Red Eagles’ advantage.

Usually resilient at their backyard, Fred Kajoba and his charges were unable to turn the tables around as they suffered their first defeat at the Champions Stadium in six months.

Prior the Tuesday loss, Bright Stars had last lost at home in October last year in that 2-1 loss to title favorites KCCA.

The loss was Bright Stars’ second in a succession having lost 2-0 to Bul before the international break. And the result coupled with Soana’s 1-1 draw against KCCA drop Bright Stars a place down to ninth.

With seven games left to the end of the season, Kajoba’s side find themselves closer to the drop zone than they are to the top as only five points separate them from Lweza positioned 14th in the league

Express meanwhile, who were fresh from ejecting Big League side Masavu from the Uganda Cup move a place up to fifth with 33 points, level on points with both Onduparaka and URA, but now sit above the West Nile club on goal difference.
