Solomon Walusimbi scored his ninth goal of the season as Maroons thrashed Sporting United 4-1 on Thursday at Luzira Prisons ground in the FUFA Big League – Elgon group.
In a game that Big League top scorer Patrick Kaddu wasn’t part of, Musa Ssali and Pius Obuya scored in the first half to give Maroons a comfortable 2-0 lead heading into recess.
The visitors enjoyed a brilliant start in the second half as they scored moments after the break through Ronnie Okullu who sent in a fantastic strike from outside the box to halve the deficit.
But Obuya made it three with his second of the day, and Maroons’ danger man Walusimbi put the Prisoners out of sight in the evening of the game as the side returned to winning ways.
Sporting’s fullback Morris was given his marching orders with a few minutes to the end of the game for a foul on Ssali.
The win was Maroons’ first since losing 1-0 to Ndejje University, their first loss of the campaign.
With Ndejje settling for a 1-1 draw with Bright Light and Kira United drawing goalless against Paidha Black Angels, Maroons are a point away from earning direct promotion to the Uganda Premier League.
