On Wednesday, the country woke up to news of long serving Uganda Cranes strike Geoffrey Massa retirement from national duty.
Massa who skippered Uganda Cranes to the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon made the retirement official by delivering the retirement letter to the federation HQ in Mengo.
“It is with immense pride that I announce my retirement from the national football team after representing the country for 12 years,” he stated in the letter.
Goals aside, without doubt, Massa derives the pride from the leadership, work ethic and professionalism he exhibited throughout the 12 years of service on the national team.
And it’s no surprise that young players as Yassar Mugerwa draw inspiration from Massa.
The St. George midfielder posted on his Facebook;
You inspired us through your performances, and you have been an inspiring personality to young players with your behaviour and professionalism on and off the field, ultimately a great leader and people followed you.
Everyone will miss you and all the best in your new challenges.
