Masavu Football Club head coach, Allan Kabonge Kivewala has hailed the players and fans after guiding his third club to the Uganda Premier League.
Kabonge master minded the promotion of Masavu to the top flight with three games to go following Airtel–Kitara’s 4-2 home victory against Mbarara City at the Boma play ground in Hoima.
Kabonge, in an exclusive interview with Kawowo Sports has showered the praise on players and fans who endured every situation to see the club attain promotion.
I am grateful to the players. They have had the sober conduct and character throughout the season.
Even in challenging moments, the players always remained focused and determined. This is the reason we are all celebrating now.
In a special way, the club fans have been so special to the team.
They supported the club with passion throughout the season. Some fans even advised management on key decisions at the club and we succeeded.
To my fellow technical team and club officials, I salute them for the work well done. I thank the club director Tonny Ssozi who has financed the club and carried the burdens of the team single handedly.
To Kabonge, Masavu is the third club he has coached to the premier league after Aurum Roses and Arua side, Onduparaka.
After the heroics, Kabonge who played for the Uganda U-23 side, Mityana Utoda, Victors, SC Villa and Express among others has described himself as the “Messiah of Uganda’s football”.
I love entertaining football. I give the players the freedom of expression once on the field of play.
The players are my friends and I am their friend. Right from the time I initiated the Lake Victoria Soccer Academy in Entebbe, I always wanted to be associated with free passing football.
This kind of relationship built a winning empire at the clubs I have managed.
I am the Messiah of Uganda’s football.
The Kitubulu based-side has 46 points from 20 games and no other club in the Rwenzori Group can reach surpass them with three games left for all the clubs on the menu.
Masavu will play in the top flight league to become yet another Entebbe club to feature in the Uganda Premier League.
Back in the days, Entebbe Municipality had the defunct Uganda Airlines and Manhatten Football Clubs as the first teams to play at the highest level.
Later, the peninsular town has seen the promotion and demotion of Entebbe Works, Entebbe Health and Entebbe Football Clubs.
Masavu is likely to host their home games at the refurbished Entebbe Works Stadium right in the heart of Entebbe town.
Currently, Entebbe Works Stadium is undergoing a re-greening exercise with the fencing process yet to be undertaken.
