Barely 24 hours after seeing his club get promoted to the highest level in the country – the Uganda Premier League, Masavu Football club owner Tonny ‘Masavu’ Ssozi has made a huge cry out to the President of Uganda, Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for financial assistance.
In an exclusive interview with Kawowo Sports, Ssozi, a shrewd businessman cried out to President Museveni for financial and logistical assistance.
First of all, I am very happy to see my club that I founded four years ago get promoted to the Uganda Premier League.
It gives me special joy in my life that my dream has come true. I thank President Museveni for the peace and security granted to this nation.
Being a resident in Entebbe, I call upon his maximum support towards the team since Entebbe Municipality now has a football club in the top flight league.
Ssozi’s love for sports has since him navigate rally cars (mainly with the crew of Allan Gayi) and lately the new found passion – football.
In 2012, he financed local football tournaments at Nkumba (Kataka) Primary school playground.
The following year, he was convinced by his young brother Edward Jingo to purchase a Buganda Regional club, Kigongowa.
After one season in the Buganda Region League, the club was promoted to the FUFA Big League where it has featured in two seasons.
Ssozi reasons the name Masavu (loosely translated as fats) was best suited for the club because it draws attention at first impression.
There was no special reason why I thought of the name Masavu.
Masavu is an attractive tag because every one on earth wants something fatty.
He believes prior planning for the season ahead will see them perform well in the Premier League.
I know there are lots of challenges in the top flight league but I will manvoure and push on.
We need sponsors for the club starting with President Museveni who is a resident in Entebbe Municipality where the State House is found.
Masavu was promoted with three games left following Airtel-Kitara’s 4-2 victory against visiting Mbarara City.
The club has been hosting their home games on the sandy Katabi-Gombolola playground at the Kitubulu Forest Reserve.
They will switch to the Works Stadium in the heart of Entebbe Town by the time the 2017/18 Uganda Premier League season kicks off in August 2017.
The Works Stadium is currently undergoing a complete overhaul with the re-greening, fencing and dressing rooms renovation underway.
